Here at Return to Player, we want to show you the best slots experiences available online. While we do plenty of slots reviews, we sometimes have a look at what a whole brand offers and that’s exactly what we’re doing here, with our Top O’Reels slots blog!

Starburst

Let’s start with a game set in the far reaches of space; Starburst. Not just the biggest game in NetEnt’s catalogue, this title is perhaps the most played slot in the world, and has been around for years. On the surface, it probably doesn’t seem like anything special; the graphics aren’t incredible, and you won’t find a plethora of bonuses to trigger. However, sometimes simplicity is best, and the basic nature of this slot is a massive reason for its success.

The wild is the main focus of this game, as it can do a lot more than just the normal substituting for other symbols to form wins. It will only land on the centre three reels; the second, third and fourth. When it does though, it will then expand to cover the reel in question, before a re-spin ensues. The best part about this is that landing another wild on one of the two remaining reels, during the respin, will generate the same effect.

Gonzo’s Quest

The next slot on our list swaps starry skies for temples and gold, as we examine the legendary Gonzo’s Quest. We always like a treasure-hunting theme, and, here, it has been executed well. Let’s talk about the display first, which takes place in the heart of some Aztecan ruins. The symbols themselves are shown as stone carvings, with a variety of mythical faces and animals depicted on each. To the side, you’ll see Gonzo, who will react to the action on screen, which is a lovely touch.

The first thing to note about this slot is that it features the Avalanche reels feature. In fact, it was the first title ever to do this and the mechanic has become a staple of the industry ever since. Instead of spinning the reels to land combinations, new symbols will drop down from above and slot into positions. The best bit is, whenever you land a win, any icons involved will be removed from play and replaced by new ones, which can form subsequent winning combos. On top of that, a win multiplier will increase every time you land one of these reaction wins, up to a maximum of 5x. If the scatter symbol lands on the first, second, and third reels on a single spin, then you will trigger the game’s Free Falls feature, which is a free spins mode. You’ll get ten in total, plus the Avalanche win multiplier will start at 3x, rising to a possible 15x. This bonus can be re-triggered for another ten spins by landing an additional three scatter symbols.

Twin Spin Deluxe

Now we move onto a six-reel, cluster paylines slot, from famed developers NetEnt. It’s based on classic fruit machines of years gone by, so you can expect to see plenty of iconic slot symbols like the BARs, cherries, and more. This is all stylised, with neon lights and textures that could’ve been lifted directly from an eighties arcade. The score is similarly suitable, with techno-esque beats that keep up a quick tempo. It’s also got some great gameplay to go with this aesthetic appeal.

Being a classic slot, Twin Spin doesn’t have much going for it in the way of bonuses, with the only special mechanic in the game being the Twin Reels feature. This will see two adjacent reels on the board connect, covering two, three, four, five, or even all six reels. The ones that are linked will show the same symbols on each, which can be quite the boon in a cluster pays slot. It’s not the most complicated bonus we’ve ever seen, but it can prove quite generous, if you’re lucky.

Ted

We finish with a Blueprint Gaming title based on one of the naughtiest film franchises out there; Ted. For those that haven’t seen the film, it is about a talking teddy bear and his thunder-buddy Johnny as they get into all kinds of trouble. It’s a raunchy comedy that has become something of a modern legend, but Blueprint Gaming has done a great job here of rendering it on the reels. The graphics are top-notch, with plenty of slick animations and images that add to the thematic qualities of the game. This is all brought together by a wonderful set of features.

In the movie, Ted and his ragtag group of friends get involved in all sorts of mischievous escapades and Blueprint Gaming has done well translating those into gameplay features. In total, there are five bonuses to be unlocked, plus six-reel modifiers that can trigger randomly at any point. For the latter, you’ll be awarded things like symbols turning wild, guaranteed winning combinations, or colossal symbols. The cool thing about this set of features is that each will have a unique animation for Ted that will play out once triggered. He might fire lasers at the reels or smash up his telly but, whatever it is, it’s a visual treat.

The five triggered bonuses mirror moments and motifs from the film itself. To trigger them, you will have to land three of the scatter symbols, which will then trigger a wheel minigame. You’ll have to spin this to decide which bonus you’ll receive. The possible options are Wheel of Fartune, S-Mart Free Spins, Flash Free Spins, and the Ted Big Money Bonus. They will each take the form of different minigames, such as free spins or ladder games, which will give you the chance to earn a tasty payout. Once the feature ends, you will be given the choice of taking your winnings or gambling to try and trigger another feature to increase your payout even more.

If you want to try any of the games mentioned here, head on over to O’Reels where you can find them all.
